My name is Kimberly Miller. I am an Iowa native that found my way to Mountain Home, Idaho by way of Texas and Louisiana. I am an Active Duty Air Force Sergeant currently enrolled in Harvard Extension University.
I have been taking pictures since I was 9 years old on a manual Minolta film camera, automatic Fuji and Canon cameras, and a digital Canon Rebel. I took pictures for 4-H, School, and for fun, but I only had little direction or understanding of everything that goes into taking pictures. As we have entered the digital age, I got away from my Canon Rebel began taking more and more photos on my phone.
Since enrolling in DGMD E-9, I have been using a Nikon D5000 to capture my images. Having little to no background on the breakdown and science of the imagery I am excited to expand my knowledge on content such as metadata, exposure, depth, lighting, use of Adobe Lightroom, and over all composition of my photos.
Midway through the course I was able to upgrade from a Nikon to a Sony A7II mirrorless camera. What an amazing tool that I have been able to use for the last few assignments of the semester. Being able to take the techniques we have been learning each week and apply them to the weekly assignments has be rewarding to see the change in my photography from the start of the course to the final project.
As I have put the final touches on the semester’s portfolio I have been able to truly see the growth I have made through this term. From out of focus, over/under exposed shots, and overall composition, I have come along way since August of 2020. I absolutely love being able to tell a story with my camera and intend to keep doing so after this class ends.
